The New Digital Divide in Rural & Urban America
As ever-faster wired and wireless connections proliferate, future services could disproportionately improve the quality of life for older, poorer and geographically isolated Americans. For example, next-generation job applications, school assignments and senior needs focus on connected homes and digital health care. The cost of non-adoption is high and likely to increase. It’s in our best interest —socially as well as economically — to help make the digitally disconnected the true value of inclusion, increase digital skills and advocate for access. As telecommuting and telemedicine become more widespread and effective, what does that mean for communities that lack basic Wi-Fi or digital resources? Learn from leading employers, civic and tech leaders about how we can bridge the divide.
