Historically, there has been limited collaboration between the public health sector and aging fields. Currently, there is mounting pressure for public health efforts to promote health and well-being for people as they age. According to the World Health Organization, “the proportion of the global population aged 60 will double from 11% in 2006 to 22% by 2050.” This demographic shift in rural areas is even more accentuated as young people migrate to the cities.
